If you haven’t received any offers, or received offers you’re not interested in. Or maybe you have not met the conditions of your offer. You always have the option to go through clearing to get a place on a course at the same or different university. This can be daunting, however we’ve outlined some top tips to help you through clearing 2024:

Get organised

Before picking up the phone research the university and courses you are looking. This will give you a insight into what the course entails. This will also help if they ask any questions into why you wish to apply

Make sure you have all the information you need before making any calls so you have these all to hand when they ask. You will need information such as your personal ID number, your clearing number, your grades/UCAS tarrif points.

Its best to find a quiet room with minimum distractions so you can concentrate on the call

Once you’re through it’s always good to note down the University name and course code and title down with space underneath to take any notes.

Be confident and positive

It can be a stressful time, however ensure you keep a positive attitude and make a good impression. Always remain polite and calm while speaking. Ask the questions you need to ask

The key is not to panic. You may have a lot of calls to make to different university however there will be places available and lots of other options.

Take your time when making you decision, don’t feel like you have to take a clearing place your hearts not 100% sure on. You always have the option to reapply the following year or even consider a gap year. Lots of courses will have similar routes, so look into similar courses that may be available to you, even if it’s not the course you originally applied for. You could even look into doing a foundation year and still study the course you wanted to do at the same university

You should use your support to make the best informed decision for yourself
